ABOUT US

Aril Estate

Our farm shop offers free tastings and no bookings required.

In the summer of 2007-2008 we planted our first batch of 1500 olive trees. We now have approximately 1050 of Manzanilla and Californian queens, 750 Picual and 200 SA Verdale varieties under irrigation. We specialise in Greek styled fermented green, turning colour and black table olives. In the autumn of 2018, we installed a one tone per hour olive press to extract virgin olive oil. We specialise in the cold pressing of olives to produce extra virgin olive oils with a range of fruity and robust flavours. With just the word of mouth, we have experienced large numbers of olive growers bring their crop to extract olive oil.

In 2015 through to 2017, we planted garlic on a small scale. Our garlic had great taste and sold out within months of going on sale at the farm gate. However, the intensive farming requirements interfered with our overall business plan and not perused anymore. In 2022, we plan to provide small quantities of our farm grown garlic infused olive oils that showcase the great garlic flavour and aromas. Additionally, we are providing marinated olives with garlic and herbs in our olive oil.

Aril Estate has over 3500 pomegranate trees planted. All pomegranate fruit grown on our property is spray free. We have eight pomegranate varieties ranging from very sweet to sweet-and-sour (sour refers to the tartness level) fruit. The sweet-and-sour fruit vary from deep purple, red and pink aril (seed) colours and flavours. All of our pomegranates are allowed to fully ripen, producing outstanding flavours not found in groceries or supermarket stores. Our fresh pomegranates are sold from our farm-gate only. They are available in early April and throughout winter or until sold out. We currently produce two types of pomegranate syrups. These range from sweet and sweet-and-sour syrups and available all year round. They make great alcohol mixers, cordials, desert flavourings, additions to oven backed or grilled meets and vegetables. We also produce pomegranate jams in-line with our syrup offerings. The sweet pomegranate jam makes a good alternative to quince paste on cheese boards.

On a smaller scale, we produce apricot and plum jams. These products go on sale at the start of summer. They have a rich fruity aroma and intense taste.
